The Difference between Free Running and Parkour
To start off for all those who do not know what free running or Parkour is, this is for you. They have very similar principles; running around clearing any obstacle in your path any means possible. Using your body to jump, climb, leap, vault, roll, and swing are basic movements in practicing free running or parkour. The only major difference between the two is that in Parkour the participants try to get from point A to point B as quick as possible. However in free running, participants try to get from point A to point B as quick as possible, but instead of just doing it simply, they may add in a flip. To sum up the differences between the two, free running is Parkour just a bit fancier. Here is an example if you still don’t understand. Say there were three people all on the second floor of a building. The first man, who does not partake in either free running or Parkour, walks downs the stairs into his convertible. The second man, a person who practiced Parkour, would jump through the window into his convertible. The third man, a person who practiced free running, would jump through the window and do a flip into his car.
A Little More About Free Running and Parkour
A little more for people who do not know what free running or Parkour is. The term given to a person who does free running is a free runner. The term for a person who does Parkour is a traceur or a traceuse for females. Free running and Parkour are mostly done in urban areas due to the more obstacles. However they have been growing in suburbs due to playgrounds and Gymnastic classes. Most people say Parkour was founded by David Belle. Others say the Ninjas were the first to use the human body to the limit. David Belle was born on April 29, 1973 in Fécamp, France. Free running was founded by Sebastien Foucan a child hood friend of Belle. The actual term “Free Running” was created by Guillaume Pelletier.
